IFWJ CELEBRATES 65th FOUNDATION DAY

New Delhi : Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) today celebrated its 65th foundation day at Jantar Mantar, where it was founded on this day in 1950. Such programmes were organized at all state capitals and media centres across the country. Some journalists from Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh also participated in the function held at Delhi.




Speaking on the occasion IFWJ’s Secretary General Parmanand Pandey said that it is the oldest organisation of the journalists, which was founded after independence and it has played a glorious role for uniting the journalists of the country. He said that it was because of this organisation that the Working Journalists Act was enacted which decided the service conditions of the newspaper employees. Shri Pandey told that this Act is sui generis, which also provides umbrella of the Industrial Disputes Act to the newspaper workers.



However, he said that now this Act has become inadequate to sub serve the interests of the journalists because of mind-boggling changes in the media industry and therefore, there is a need for the comprehensive amendment in the Working Journalist Act. Addressing the gathering Hemant Tiwari, Secretary of the IFWJ recalled the struggles waged by the organisation for protecting the interests of the newspaper employees. He underlined the need for the Media Council so as to bring the powerful and pervading electronic media in its ambit. He also appealed to all governments to immediately get the Majithia Award implemented otherwise media persons would be compelled.



Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi, the Group Editor of the Kaimoor Times said that on the 65th foundation day of the IFWJ, journalists would have to take the new pledge to fight for the rights of journalists and also for preserving the freedom of speech and expression as enshrined in our Constitution.



Among others who were present on the occasion were Shri K. Asudhulla (Secretary South-IFWJ), Ram P. Yadav (Secretary-IFWJ),  Chandan Rai (President-DUWJ),  Bala Subramaniam (Tamilnadu), Ratan Bhushan Prasad Singh,  Pradeep Singh, Dileep Diwedi of Jagran Prakashan Ltd. Employees Union, D.S. Lokesh Sagar from Karnataka, Rinku Yadav from UPWJU, Hara Prasad Chandra, Chandra Kant Pandey, Umashankar Singh  of DUWJ.
